Thunder Over Louisville is the kick-off event for the Kentucky Derby Festival and is held each year two weeks before Derby Day. More than 500,000 thrill-seekers pack into downtown Louisville and along the banks of the Ohio River to be part of the experience. The daylong event includes the Thunder Air Show in the afternoon, featuring more than 100 planes, aerobatics teams, daring sky diving teams and breathtaking stunts. When night falls, the amazing 28-minute fireworks show gets underway. The signature attraction is the one-mile "waterfall" fireworks effect on the 2nd Street Bridge.
